Hive surf wants to raise awareness of the outstanding job Surfrider NYC is doing to fight the Proposed Manmade Island That May Alter New York and New Jersey Oceanic Ecosystems.
The Atlantic Sea Island Group (ASIG) has submitted an application to build a mega-island 13 miles off the shores of Long Beach, NY, and 19 miles off Sandy Hook, NJ, to operate a Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) facility.
The 60.5-acre manmade island would have a 116-acre seafloor footprint and require dumping millions of tons of material into the ocean. Such an island has never been created in the open ocean and ASIG has no experience in offshore construction or with LNG.  Read more.

WHO WE ARE
Boarding For Breast Cancer (B4BC) is a non-profit, youth-focused education, awareness, and fundraising foundation. Our mission is to increase awareness about breast cancer, the importance of early detection and the value of an active lifestyle.
OUR INSPIRATION
The inspiration for Boarding For Breast Cancer was a young woman named Monica Steward. Monica, who was a very dear friend of all B4BC founders, started her battle with breast cancer at the age of 26 and passed two years later from complications that arose from the disease.
Boarding For Breast Cancer was founded as a result of Monica voicing her frustration about the lack of awareness among young women about the disease to friends and future co-founders, Tina Basich, Shannon Dunn, Lisa Hudson and Kathleen Gasperini. Their idea was to create an event that centered around their mutual passions, snowboarding and music, to communicate the message of awareness while raising money for research and educating young women about breast cancer.
Monica Steward passed away a month later, just three months before her inaugural Boarding For Breast Cancer Snowboard + Music Festival event.
The New York Surf Film Festival is the premier showcase for international independent surf film. The mission of the New York Surf Film Festival is to provide filmmakers who are exploring the diversity of surfing an opportunity to present their work to a larger audience. As surf culture becomes more popular, the notion of what it means to be a surfer expands. The New York Surf Film Festival's aim is to build upon and shape the idea of what a surf movie is, while fostering the growth of this global community in NYC.
The New York Surf Film Festival is an event consisting of three days of screenings of independent short and feature films, cult classics, and world premieres from established surf filmmakers. In between screenings, we will be hosting a surf history lecture series, Q&A Sessions with filmmakers and notable surfers, Panel Discussions, and Meet & Greets. We will also be curating a Surf Art Gallery to be open to the public for the duration of the weekend. Please contact us if you are interested in showcasing your work. We will be screening films across all categories, including but not limited to:
Official 2008 New York Surf Film Festival Selections will be chosen mid-August by our international screening panel.
